Edward Sharpe tickets

I know, I know. Another Edward Sharpe post. But seriously I can't wait for the show on Sunday. I did not get to see The Big Pink show, so I am really looking forward to this one. I am a little bummed that Varsity Theater tickets sold out for this show because there a few friends that I would like to drag along to the show.

The final countdown: TWO DAYS!!!!

I have been following Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's Twitter page and reading all of the tour updates. I can't wait to see what they have to say about Minneapolis. I have also set aside 20 bucks to buy a t shirt to commemorate this concert, this is one that I will want to add to my giant collection of concert t's. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can leave work a little early on Sunday so I can head over the the FREE Electric Fetus in store at 3pm. Oh the excitement!!!

See you the SOLD OUT show Sunday night!

ps, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' song "Home" was the NPR song of the day today! Yeah!

Dark Star Orchestra Tickets On Sale Saturday

Listen up Dark Star Orchestra fans! Everyone's favorite Grateful Dead cover band has just announced a show at the Varsity Theater. This is a change of pace for them, if memory serves me correctly Dark Star Orchestra usually plays at at Pantages or State Theaters, their crowd and clientele is a little different than what you usually find at the Varsity.

Varsity Theater tickets are on sale starting Saturday for this event. I would expect that Dark Star Orchestra tickets will sell out considering they usually play at larger places and their fan base is very dedicated. Jam bands and their fans stick together for generations and generations, no?

Don't miss Dark Star Orchestra at the Varsity Theater Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Har Mar = Success!

Despite being overly tired and exhausted Friday night after work, I STILL managed to put myself together to go to Har Mar at the Varsity. I couldn't let all of my loyal bloggers down who were looking forward to a review?! What kind of blogger would I be?

Well, I go there in time to see one of the opening bands, Lookbook. I must admit, I am not a huge fan of women singers as I'm sure you have read a rant here and there before, but this guy/girl duo were awesome. Their' music had it's own unique sound - bravo Har Mar for choosing these guys.

Har Mar packed the Varsity with old school fans like myself and brand new just out of high school fans. I was a bit surprised, Har Mar usually attracts the ladies, but this time around it was 50/50 boys/girls. Varsity Theater tickets had to been about sold out, some were still available at the door when I got there, but it was super packed when I left at the end of the night.

Har Mar Superstar took the stage in a African tunic which was worn over a zig zag long sleeved sequin shirt. It didn't take long for it to all come off in true Har Mar fashion. He played his new jams, he played his old jams - slowly I think my new favorite Har Mar jam to see live is the "Girls Only" song he wrote for the Cheetah Girls.

All in all it was a great night - I even bought some "Tall Boy" beer coolies. They are pretty much going to be the hottest gift of the holiday season. The show was a little bittersweet, it is so apparent that Har Mar has moved on from the stage - which is understandable and exciting as he is one talented guy!
See you at the next one!!!

AND THIS JUST IN .... EDWARD SHARPE AND THE MAGNETIC ZEROES IS SOLD OUT. SOLD OUT!

More Edward Sharpe News!

Hello on this fine Thursday! Today when I logged onto good ol' Twitter I noticed that Electric Fetus had updated their Twitter - and it was some super exciting news ... Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes have agreed to do an in-store performance at the Minneapolis Electric Fetus!!! The best part about it is that it is free. No monies needed to see the show!!!

So, in case you cannot swing the $$$ for Varsity Theater tickets to the show on Sunday night, you can see them for free at Electric Fetus at 3pm. I am not going to lie, I am psyched to go to both shows. No going to the Vikings game for me (and prying my eyes from the TV is going to be hard to do, too). I don't know what it is about these guys, but I am so excited to see them, I know they are going to be awesome!!!

Thank you Twitter for making me aware of this awesome additional show.

See you there!!!

November is here ... Edward Sharpe tickets are here

In case you may have lost count ... the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes show is only 27 days away! We are down to less than a month here kids! Can you feel my excitement because I have not been looking forward to a show like this for ages.

Varsity Theater tickets
are still available. I bought my Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes tickets last week and there was a stack of them left. The show is over a holiday weekend, but I hope enough people make it to the show to fill up the place. Regardless I will be in the front singing along to every song!

See you at the show - I can't wait to see who the opening acts are ... but I don't think they have been announced yet...

Har to the Mar SUPERSTAR

Minnesota's finest, most eligable bachelor (hopefully nothing has changed) is coming back to Minneapolis for not one but TWO shows this November. More specifically Har Mar Superstar is playing at the Varsity Theater on Friday, November 6th after he is done with his previous headlining show at the Triple Rock.
Normally I am the kind of super fan that would go to both shows, but I have already bought Minnesota Wild tickets for the game against the Vancouver Canucks on November 5th so I can't make that one. But I will 100$ be at the Varsity for this one. If you have not seen Har Mar before you haven't lived.

He is touring in support of his new album: Dark Touches. Not every city gets the back to back shows like Minneapolis. Har Mar was actually just here last month to play a show at the Uptown Bar, which as you may know is closing in less than a week. Har Mar wanted to play there one last time before it closed, as a musician who has played the bar circuit in Minneapolis as extensively as he has, the Uptown Bar was one he frequented. Oasis played there even! It's a legendary place to say the least.

I am going to tell a story. The story of how Har Mar was introduced to my life. It all started back in 11th grade when my friend, Rachel and I went to a Hives concert at good ol First Ave. One of our other favorite bands at the time, The Mooney Suzuki, was supposed to open for them, but their van broke down and were stuck in Chicago. Since they still needed an opening act they called the 'house act' at the time, which was Har Mar Superstar. We were in awe while we watched a short, hairy man fashioning a skullet that looked like ron Jeremy's brother danced on stage to a mini disc player and took off his clothes. It was love. At the end of the show we got free tickets to see his next show at First Avenue and at that one we got more free tickets to the show after that, etc.

It's cool to see him as such a successful person. Har Mar lives in Los Angeles, he has been in movies, vodka ads, toured with so many of my favorite bands, but he always comes back to play shows for his peeps in Minneapolis. Much love to Har Mar. I have been to more of your shows than I can count!

I am going to buy my Varsity Theater tickets after work today for this show - I'm not going to miss it!

Varsity Theater Tickets On Sale for Pinback!

Punk rockers Pinback are back in Minneapolis for a show this November.

Pinback has not released an album since 2007's "Autumn of the Seraphs." They are still touring in support of the album, they are known for their vibrant live shows and dedicated fan base. In the past they have played various venues around Minneapolis like the Triple Rock and the 7th Street Entry. I think they may have even played the Varsity Theater before.

There have not been an opening acts announced for this show.
As I have said before, the Varsity is a small venue, they hold only about 800 people. If Pinback is one of your favorites don't delay - buy your Varsity Theater tickets now!

Pinback formed in 1997 in San Francisco, California.
Pinback is just one of the many bands singer/songwriters Armistead Burwell Smith IV and Rob Crow have been in.
