Freaking out a little right now!

ASDKFJSADKFJLKJF9#$&())__^$ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just found out that my favorite new band, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, will be in town for a show November 29th!!! Sure, it is the same day as the Vikings/Bears game, but I don't care - I can't wait to see these guys. I have left several messages on the band's Myspace page, merely suggesting that they make a stop in Minneapolis on their tour. My wishes were granted - they are coming!!!

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is the new project from Alex Ebert. You may recognize his name from the band Ima Robot. They are on tour in support of their new album "Up From Below" which I would like to point out is the BEST album I have bought in months. Easily since Deer Tick's self titled release in June.

Sunday, November 29th 2009 - Edward Sharpe and Magnetic Zeros with special guests Fools Gold and Local Natives - this is an 18+ show

See you at the show!!! I am going to buy my Varsity Theater tickets for this show asap! I can't wait!

This news has made my day - that and the Twins won the first game in their double header today!.

Owl City at the Cabooze?

One of my favorite acts to see at the Varsity, Owl City, appears to have abandoned it in the dust. Owl City is playing at the Cabooze instead of the Varsity this month. I am not sure why there was a venue change this time, both the Cabooze and the Varsity hold the same amount of people. Like all Owl City shows this past year, the show is sold out. Owl City tickets are hard to find, so you may need to exhaust all of your options to get a ticket.

The Cabooze is an ok place to see a show, it is just kind of layed out funny. I am keeping my fingers crossed that someday Owl City will play at First Avenue, where Owl City tickets may not be as difficult to find - First Avenue holds 1200 people!

Don't let the Cabooze scare you away - the show will be great!

Check out Owl City's music on their Myspace page!!

See you at the show!

Don't miss Owl City, Saturday, September 26th at the Cabooze

Flyleaf at the Varisty!

You may have heard of Flyleaf on the radio if you are an avid 93X listener. Well they are going to be playing a soon to be sold out show at the Varsity Theater this fall. Flyleaf are known for their debut album "Flyleaf" which included their singles: "I'm So Sick", "Fully Alive," and "All Around Me."

Varsity Theater tickets
for Flyleaf go on sale this Saturday, September, 19th. Paper Tongues will open the show, and the show is all ages. If Flyleaf is a band you want to see be sure to buy your Varsity Theater tickets as soon as possible, I am pretty sure this show will sell out.

Flyleaf is Monday, November 9th - so there will be no parking issues, the Varsity Theater is definitely an area of town you will want to avoid when there is a Gopher game!

Long time no see!

There hasn't been a lot going on at the Varsity Theater, but it looks like I let the updating get even the best of me!

There is, however, a big show coming up this weekend. Hometown band, Solid Gold, will be playing at the Varsity. Varsity Theater tickets for this show will popular -Solid Gold have not had a show in the area in awhile.

They have had a busy summer - both in the states and abroad. Solid Gold just completed their tour which took them through Scandinavia, Stone Henge, the English seaside, and into the heart of London. Opening for the show is Mystery Palace, who on tour in support of their new album coming out soon.

Be sure to check Solid Gold out this Friday - I'm not sure when they're next show is!

Keller Williams (No! Not the Realator)

The one man band jam, Keller Williams, will be in town for a show at the Varsity on October 22nd, 2009. He has a jam band fan following, Keller Williams has played with Yonder Mountain String Band, String Cheese Incident, Umphrey's McGee and Ratdog. All of which are huge jam bands.
I'm not sure if Varsity Theater tickets for this show will be in demand or not, however, I am assuming that most people will buy tickets for this show last minute. Varsity Theater tickets will sit around for Keller Williams and then fly out of the box office.

Check out Keller Williams' music on his Myspace page here.

Keller Williams tickets go on sale this Saturday!

The show is 18+

Did anyone go to Phoenix?

So did anyone make it to the Phoenix show? I am curious as to how it played out. I heard that the AC was broke at the Varsity and the show was completely sold out - what an interesting and sweaty night that must have been!

In other Varsity news indie stars Ra Ra Riot have announced a return show to Minneapolis this September. They are still promoting their debut, The Rhumb Line, on a lengthy headlining tour starting in September. Some dates they will be still an opening act for bands Death Cab for Cutie, The New Pornographers, and Andrew Bird. On the dates Ra Ra Riot will headline the openers will be Princeton and Maps & Atlases.

I'm pretty sure that last time Ra Ra Riot was in town they played at First Avenue, which holds 400-500 more people. If this is a show you're really wanting to attend be sure to buy your Varsity Theater tickets now. Ra Ra Riot tickets at the Varsity Theater are on sale now!

Josh Ritter show announced!

Singer/sound writer Josh Ritter will be in town for a Varsity Theater. He is taking a break from the Fine Line, which is where Josh Ritter usually plays when he is in town.
Born in Moscow, Idaho, Josh Ritter has a very traditional story of his rise to success. Starting out playing small clubs and open mic nights around his college town he caught the eye of a an Irish band, the Frames, and eventually went back to Ireland with them to record and make music.
After learning how much he made on cd sales at open mic nights Josh Ritter was able to make enough money to stop odd coffee shop jobs and just do music full time. The following album, Golden Age of Radio cost Ritter only $1000 to make.

He was signed to V2 Records in 2005 and is currently touring in support of his latest album.

Varsity Theater tickets for Josh Ritter are on sale now and will sell out fast - all of Josh's shows have sold out at the Fine Line!
